Alfie, our super amazing son, is now coming up to 10 months old – can’t believe it!
To celebrate we took him on his first trip abroad, staying in a gorgeous villa in Portugal just outside Albufeira on the south coast.
These are his highlights 🙂
A little about Albufeira
Albufeira’s on the south coast of Portugal in the Algarve region.
It’s a former fishing village turned major holiday destination. During the day it’s a beautiful and fun market town and at night, it’s a bustling strip of pubs and bars that’s perfect for a ye old english stag do. The town’s now centered around it’s marina, where you can dive, dolphin watch and take boat trips around its scenic coastline.
The flight was nice and short, just 2.5 hours from Bristol. It was great to be able to take the stroller right through to boarding the plane – it made the whole process so much easier and Alf’s was much happier chilling in his comfy seat.
After landing we couldn’t wait to get straight to the villa for some instant R&R.
It was was a gorgeous example of Mediterranean living at it’s best, 4 bedrooms all en-suites, huge kitchen, outside barbecue and heated swimming pool – can’t get better than that!
With Alfie fed and watered it was sun time. Up went the pop-up tent, out came the toys and it was ready for playtime and of course, his first photoshoot.
I love these photos, we’re blessed to have a very smily happy baby. The only trouble is he LOVES grabbing my camera. I’m using a 35mm prime here so can’t just zoom in; it was more a case of move close, snap as many as possible and move away quickly before he grabs it!
Alfie’s taking his first steps at the moment and I’m so proud to be holding his tiny hands and helping him walk around. It’s very much a waddle / stagger, with feet literally landing in random places, crossed over each other, backwards and any other which way you can think of.
These two are of mum helping him along. I had to lie on my back to get these ones, quickly dodging tiny feet as they stomp forward!
Alfie loves swimming and having the whole pool to himself made it even better. Of course with the strong sun he had to be properly covered up – I like to think of this outfit as a stylish shark getup.
He’s been taking swimming classes so he’s really used to swimming and absolutely loves it. As soon as his feet touch the water it’s time to kicking and splashing, we just hold his shoulders and he kicks away 🙂
We managed a few day trips out while we were there. My favourite destination was Faro, which is where we flew into.
It’s filled with colourful Mediterranean houses and apartments and it’s a dream for door photographers – you’ll know if you’re one of those.
We also visited Albufeira’s old town where the real market hustle and nightlife gets going. The old town leads directly onto the beach through this fantastic tunnel, a real treat for sun worshippers.
Just after the tunnel is a great restaurant where we stopped for lunch. Eating out is always interesting with a little one and Alfie’s no different. Assuming you can find somewhere with high chairs and time the lunch just right to fit his routine, it works great. Unfortunately on this occasion he was left waiting for lunch to be served – fortunately some emergency biscuits kept him happy 🙂
Of course, dad needs his quality time too and diplomatic relations is very important to me – you ALWAYS have to stop to get to know the locals…

Back for bed
At the end of all those exciting days it’s time for bed. We always want him to go to sleep happy so it’s piggy back rides from daddy all the way there. He loves them and I love these photos by mummy of me and him on the way up.
There must have been something in the water that night too as he went to bed with this gorgeous autumn skyline.
Sweet dreams Alfie, we’ll see you tomorrow 🙂
